A legal team representing a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ogbeide Associates, has formally requested that Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu investigate party secretary Samuel Anyanwu and factional chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed. The request concerns a November 3, 2025, communication sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that allegedly contained fraudulent claims.
The petition asserts that the letter falsely declared the suspension of Acting National Chairman Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum and the subsequent installation of Mohammed. Legal representatives argue that during the NWC’s 608th emergency session on November 1, 2025, the committee actually resolved to suspend Anyanwu due to claims of anti-party conduct. Records indicate Anyanwu was absent from this meeting, while Mohammed attended, meaning the latter was aware of the true committee decisions.
Furthermore, the filing highlights a Federal High Court ruling from October 2024 that mandates INEC only recognize documents signed by Ambassador Damagum. This ruling was previously acknowledged by Anyanwu himself. Additionally, the Court of Appeal upheld the suspension of Senator Anyanwu in March 2026. The petition requests an inquiry into how INEC processed the disputed November 3 letter despite holding prior court orders and internal records that contradicted the submission. Counsel for the petitioners emphasized that the focus is on protecting the integrity of official processes rather than targeting specific individuals.
