The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that the 2027 Ebonyi State governorship race will rely on evidence of performance and public accountability rather than intimidation or political rhetoric. Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, National Publicity Secretary Jungudo Mohammed addressed reports that Governor Nwifuru threatened to destroy opposition forces during a recent rally.
Mohammed labeled the Governor’s comments as reckless, suggesting they reveal anxiety over potential rejection by voters in 2027. He challenged Nwifuru to shift his focus from threatening opponents to accounting for his administration’s actions over the past three years. Specific concerns were raised regarding the N24 billion airport renovation, unfinished local road projects, the status of overseas scholarships, and funding for traditional palaces.
The spokesperson further stated that the Governor’s political struggles stem from a disconnect with the people, not from interference by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. He encouraged Nwifuru to prepare for a contest against PDP candidate Dr. Ifeanyi Odii instead. Finally, Mohammed urged security agencies to monitor the situation to ensure the safety of PDP members and warned that the only thing the Governor should aim to consume is the challenge of delivering tangible development to the state.
