Paul Scholes urges Manchester United to target Tottenham’s Cristian Romero

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes the club should prioritize signing Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero to improve their defensive options.

Paul Scholes has advised Manchester United to initiate a transfer for Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero. Speaking on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, the former United midfielder suggested that the club needs to strengthen its defensive lineup significantly.

Scholes argued that while the team improved its attack last season, they remain deficient in the center-back position. He explicitly identified Romero as an ideal candidate to bolster the squad. Despite acknowledging Romero’s aggressive nature and frequent disciplinary issues, Scholes insisted that the Argentine defender possesses superior talent compared to current options like Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt.

The former United star highlighted that Romero’s pedigree as a World Cup finalist justifies a potential investment, noting that the reported price tag of 30 to 40 million pounds is reasonable. Since arriving at Tottenham in 2021, Romero has netted 13 goals in 156 appearances, though he has also received 44 yellow cards and six red cards. The player is reportedly attracting interest from other major clubs, including Arsenal, Inter Milan, and Atletico Madrid.
