Coventry City have completed the signing of Eintracht Frankfurt defender Aurele Amenda for a total fee exceeding £17 million. The 22-year-old Swiss international joins the newly-promoted Premier League side on a four-year deal, with an initial payment of £15.4 million plus £1.7 million in potential performance-related add-ons.
Amenda, who previously made 42 appearances for Frankfurt after moving from Young Boys, attributed his decision to join to the persuasive efforts of manager Frank Lampard and the club’s recruitment department. He expressed his excitement about the project, noting his confidence in his defensive abilities and composure on the ball.
While Amenda was named in Switzerland’s World Cup squad that advanced to the quarter-finals, he did not feature in any matches during the tournament. He becomes Coventry’s third summer acquisition, joining Loum Tchaouna and Frank Onyeka.
The club is currently pursuing other targets, including a potential move for Brighton goalkeeper Carl Rushworth, with Filip Jorgensen identified as a secondary option. Coventry continues their preparations for their first top-flight season in a quarter-century with upcoming friendlies against Northampton Town and Espanyol.
