Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has spoken in defense of President Bola Tinubu regarding the nation’s deteriorating security status. Speaking at the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala in Washington, D.C., the cleric argued that it is unreasonable to blame the president for security failures once he has commanded the armed forces to act.
Adeboye emphasized that a commander-in-chief’s role is to issue instructions rather than engage in direct physical combat, drawing a parallel to the executive role held by former U.S. President Donald Trump. While he maintained this support for the administration, he conceded that violence, including kidnapping and terrorism, has grown significantly and spread from the North into southern regions.
Highlighting the severity of the crisis, the pastor mentioned that he personally advised President Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu to set a 90-day deadline for military leaders to eradicate terror groups or step down. Adeboye insisted that the government must pivot its strategy toward identifying and arresting the powerful business figures and politicians who bankroll these criminal networks. He concluded by urging the international community, including the United States, to assist Nigeria in restoring order and defeating the insurgents.
