Oyo State officials blocked from visiting freed abduction victims

Oyo State government officials were turned away by military personnel while attempting to visit rescued abduction victims at a medical facility in Ibadan.

A high-level team representing the Oyo State Government was barred from entering the 2nd Division Medical Centre in Ibadan on Saturday. The officials sought to visit survivors of an abduction in the Oriire Local Government Area who are currently being treated at the military facility.

The group, which included Commissioner for Information Prince Dotun Oyelade, Commissioner for Health Dr. Oluwaserimi Adewumi Ajetunmobi, Special Adviser on Security Coordination Major General Tokunbo Omoniyi (retired), former UCH Chief Medical Director Professor Temitope Alonge, and Chief Press Secretary Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, arrived to check on the victims’ progress. However, military personnel stationed at the gate refused the delegation entry, citing orders from superiors.

This refusal occurred even as the state government previously promised to provide full medical and psychological rehabilitation for the survivors. The victims were recently liberated on Friday after being held captive for 56 days. Both state and federal authorities had earlier committed to supporting the survivors’ recovery following their rescue.
