Saheed Oladele, the governorship candidate for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Oyo State, has urged voters to take an active role in financing their favored political candidates. Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria in Ibadan, Oladele argued that grassroots financial contributions are essential for replacing corrupt political practices with honest governance.
Oladele noted that relying on funds from politicians who have misused public resources only prevents meaningful progress. He suggested that if citizens contribute even small amounts to support credible individuals, those leaders will remain accountable to the public rather than to political manipulation or illicit wealth. He emphasized that the SDP is well-positioned with a strong following to win major contests in the 2027 general elections.
Addressing the current state of affairs, Oladele explained that he entered the race to address widespread hardship and systemic failures. He pledged that an SDP administration would prioritize upgrading healthcare, enhancing education, and generating jobs. He cited his transition from the All Progressives Congress to the SDP as evidence of his organic support base, noting that his followers remained loyal despite the change. He remains confident in the party’s capability to capture the governorship in the upcoming election cycle.
