Authorities in Oyo State have apprehended a robbery suspect after he purportedly assaulted a motorcycle taxi driver in the Apata district of Ibadan. DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the police spokesperson, stated that the arrest followed a report regarding an attack on Muhammadu Kamilu, who was hit with a hammer by a passenger intent on stealing his Bajaj Boxer motorcycle.
Members of the Violent Crime Response Unit acted quickly, taking Shafiu Nuhu into custody and reclaiming the stolen vehicle, identified by registration number AJW 842 QU. They also secured the hammer believed to be the weapon used in the assault. Both the motorcyclist and Nathaniel Ibrahim, a bystander who tried to assist, were wounded and subsequently treated at a local medical facility.
During questioning, Nuhu reportedly admitted to targeting commercial motorcyclists across the Ibadan area. Police are continuing their investigation to see if the suspect is linked to other crimes. Commissioner of Police Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga lauded the public for their assistance and reaffirmed the force’s dedication to proactive security measures against criminal activity.
