A group of 33 chairmanship and 351 councillorship candidates from the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) have initiated a lawsuit against their party at a Federal High Court in Ibadan, Oyo State. This legal action comes as the state prepares for its upcoming local government elections scheduled for December.
The plaintiffs took this step following reports that the APM National Chairman intended to nullify the primary elections held on August 3, 2026. Those initial polls had successfully resulted in the selection of all 33 chairmanship and 351 councillorship candidates currently running.
The lawsuit identifies the APM, its National Chairman, the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as defendants. The candidates are requesting that the court intervene and prohibit the party from organizing any new primary elections, effectively seeking to uphold the results of the August vote.
