Oyo Kidnapping: Hospital Releases 31 Pupils While Eight Remain Under Care

Following the rescue of 39 kidnapped pupils in Oyo State, 31 have been discharged from the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, while eight students continue to receive medical care.

Out of the 39 students rescued after being held by kidnappers in the Oriire region of Oyo State, 31 have now been released from the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso.

The group, which included both teachers and pupils, was abducted on May 15, 2026, and eventually freed on July 10. Following their rescue, the victims were initially taken to the Military Hospital in Ibadan before being transferred to the Oyo State government on Monday. They were subsequently moved to the LAUTECH facility for specialized medical care.

Omotayo Ogunleye, the hospital’s spokesperson, verified on Wednesday that the majority of the students have been cleared to go home. He added that the remaining eight students are still receiving treatment and will likely be discharged in the near future, though he did not disclose specific details regarding their medical condition.
