The Osun State Police Command has taken Kareem Saheed, also known as Tanfiani, into custody regarding the death of 14-year-old Olapade Ezekiel. The youth lost his life during a violent clash between members of the All Progressives Congress and the Accord Party in Ilobu, Irepodun Local Government Area. The incident occurred on June 21 and also resulted in two others suffering gunshot wounds.
Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan announced that a total of 24 individuals have been detained for various political and cult-related offenses, including those involved in a separate conflict in Okinni. The list of detainees includes Oyeladun Muideen, Ridwan Adekola, and 22 others. Gotan emphasized that the police force remains dedicated to preserving peace throughout the election cycle and warned that anyone attempting to incite unrest will face legal consequences.
During questioning, Saheed rejected the allegations, claiming he is being set up by the Accord Party. He asserted his absence from the scene during the shooting and explained that a viral video of him was actually captured on a previous Friday during a different confrontation. He alleged that he had confiscated a weapon from an opposition member and returned it to their leadership, maintaining his innocence in the teenager’s demise. The police are continuing their investigation into these reports of political violence.
