On Monday, women in Osogbo took to the streets to express their opposition to rising political violence, police intimidation, and killings occurring before the upcoming gubernatorial election in Osun State. Participants carried placards and chanted songs to voice their concerns.
Protesters displayed messages such as “We Want Ballots, Not Bullets” and “Election Is Not War.” One participant, Eniola, argued that political disputes should not result in loss of life or property damage. She emphasized that political ambitions should not put family members at risk, noting that while elections are temporary, human lives are irreplaceable.
The group appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the deteriorating security situation. Additionally, they requested the removal of Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, citing concerns regarding his neutrality. The protesters called upon security agencies to provide impartial protection to all citizens and political actors, while demanding accountability for violent acts. Their primary goal remains ensuring that voters can cast their ballots safely without fear of harassment.
