Law enforcement officials in Osun State have detained the Commissioner for Environment, Mayowa Asejoorin, following a shooting incident during an All Progressives Congress (APC) rally in Ilesa this past Saturday.
Reports indicate that the confrontation left four individuals wounded. According to witnesses, the violence erupted when Accord Party members targeted the APC crowd, triggering gunfire. Among the injured is a 14-year-old boy named Ilesanmi, who was struck by a stray bullet in the leg while near his mother’s business. While no fatalities were reported, all victims are currently receiving medical attention.
Eyewitness Kola Adeoti stated that security personnel accompanying Accord Party leaders opened fire on the APC supporters, sparking public outcry in the city. DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the Osun State Police Command spokesperson, verified the arrest of Commissioner Asejoorin for his alleged involvement.
Police arrived quickly to secure the site, recovering spent cartridges and items belonging to the Amotekun security corps. Asejoorin is being held at police headquarters to assist with the ongoing investigation.
