Political friction is rising in Osun State as the All Progressives Congress (APC) reports that Dele Ayegbo, the nephew of campaign Director-General Wole Oke, was murdered. According to party spokesperson Kola Olabisi, the incident occurred Wednesday night near Ayegbo’s home in the Idofin section of Esa-Oke, situated in the Obokun Local Government Area.
The APC has blamed the attack on alleged assailants linked to the Accord Party, claiming the perpetrators arrived in a vehicle to execute the shooting. While Ayegbo was killed on the spot, another party member survived the attack with gunshot injuries and is currently receiving medical care. Olabisi stated that this incident is part of a broader pattern, alleging that over 30 party supporters have been killed since 2022, with the majority of these deaths occurring in Ijesaland.
The party has called on the Osun State Police Command to investigate the violence immediately, suggesting that the timing of the assault is intended to intimidate voters ahead of Saturday’s election. Requests for comment sent to police spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi remained unanswered at the time of reporting. The state remains in a heightened state of alert as political competition between the APC and supporters of the incumbent governor intensifies.
