Osogbo Association Advises Ataoja to Maintain Political Impartiality

A local group, Oroki United Front, has called on the Ataoja of Osogbo to stay neutral in political affairs after reports of a political meeting held at his palace ahead of the Osun governorship election.

With the Osun State governorship election approaching, the Oroki United Front has issued a formal request asking the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun, to avoid partisan involvement. The group expressed concern following reports that the royal palace was used for a meeting involving the Accord Campaign Council.

Abass Jayeola, coordinator for the organization, emphasized that the palace should function as a neutral space for community development rather than a site for political maneuvering. The group argues that the monarch must act as an unbiased leader for all residents, pointing to other traditional rulers in the state as models for maintaining a non-partisan stance during election cycles.

The statement further urged local leaders, including compound heads and youth representatives, to focus on town interests such as infrastructure and government facilities rather than personal political agendas. The group insisted that any discussions with political actors should prioritize the collective welfare of Osogbo, warning that the community is closely observing the monarch’s interactions to ensure the dignity of the throne remains intact.
