Osoba, Amosun, and Alake Honor Prof. Soyode at 85

Former governors Olusegun Osoba and Ibikunle Amosun joined the Alake of Egbaland to celebrate the 85th birthday of Professor Afolabi Soyode and the launch of his new book.

Prominent figures including former Ogun State governors Chief Olusegun Osoba and Senator Ibikunle Amosun joined Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, on Friday to honor Professor Afolabi Soyode. The event marked the 85th birthday of the former Olabisi Onabanjo University Vice-Chancellor and the release of his new book, Abeokuta Club: The Making of a Life President.

Representing Chief Osoba, Hon. Adekunle Adeyemi praised Professor Soyode as a vital leader and academic whose work has left a lasting positive mark on Egbaland and Ogun State. Senator Amosun lauded the professor’s commitment to integrity and hard work, while also acknowledging the vital role played by Soyode’s wife in his success. Amosun noted that the elder statesman’s career remains a model for institutional excellence.

The Alake of Egbaland, Oba Gbadebo, commended the academic for his long history of service, ranging from his time at the University of Ibadan to his leadership roles in local community organizations. He specifically noted Soyode’s pivotal influence as Life President of the Abeokuta Club.

Speaking for the family, Otunba Wale Soyode reflected on the professor’s diverse career as an economist, teacher, and institution builder. He highlighted how these roles have enabled him to influence generations and strengthen the local community over several decades.
