Oba Abdulwahab Kayode Adedotun Bibire II, the Orangun of Ila-Orangun, has rejected reports claiming he endorsed Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke for a second term in the upcoming 2026 election. A statement released Monday by the monarch’s High Chiefs clarified that the palace remains politically neutral and did not authorize any such endorsement.
The controversy emerged after Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, suggested that a delegation of chiefs led by Chief Douglas Oyinlola visited the governor to pledge support on the monarch’s behalf. The palace explicitly stated that these individuals acted without the King’s knowledge or consent.
Furthermore, the palace emphasized that the participants of the visit acted strictly in their private capacities. The monarch warned politicians against dragging traditional leaders into partisan politics. While acknowledging that chiefs possess the right to hold personal opinions, the palace stressed that these individuals must not claim to represent the traditional throne without explicit authorization. Internal steps are being taken to address the situation.
In the same communication, the monarch thanked Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi for his contributions to local development, specifically noting road dualization efforts, a power substation project, and the new Ajagunla Radio Station. The King also expressed appreciation to the Osun State Government for completing the road project. He concluded by urging all political stakeholders to prioritize the unity and progress of the state over partisan divisions.
