Soldiers under the Joint Task Force, North East, Operation HADIN KAI, successfully thwarted an offensive by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) militants against a military facility in Gajiram, Borno State. Captain Mohammed Goni, the acting media officer, reported that the militants launched their assault around 12:20 a.m. on Monday, hoping to overwhelm the base.
The soldiers engaged the attackers with heavy gunfire, causing them to retreat after sustaining significant losses. Military forces successfully recovered various weapons, ammunition, and communication equipment from the scene. Aerial surveillance later confirmed that the insurgents were seen removing their casualties as they fled.
The encounter did result in injuries to some soldiers when a section of the perimeter was briefly breached, leading to damage to several military vehicles from Rocket-Propelled Grenades. The wounded personnel were airlifted for medical treatment and are currently in stable condition. Security forces continue to patrol the area to ensure regional stability and have urged local residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
