Personnel from the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) VICTORY have dismantled a base utilized by suspected militants in the Ine Ikoridung settlement of Cross River State. This military action was prompted by intelligence suggesting that the group had moved to the location to escape increased pressure from security forces in other sectors.
Lieutenant-Commander Sulaiman Bala, the NNS VICTORY Base Information Officer, confirmed the development in a statement from Calabar. He reported that while no individuals were apprehended because the suspects escaped as naval vessels neared, the mission successfully disrupted the militant presence in the Dayspring area.
During the raid, troops secured a collection of items including a police vest, a military-style pullover, five spent cartridges, and a camouflage hat. Perhaps most significantly, the Navy recovered a logbook listing captured militant fighters and the specific prisons where they are being held. To ensure the site could no longer serve as a base of operations, the huts were demolished by the naval team.
Bala emphasized that the Navy remains committed to maintaining aggressive patrols to secure the state’s maritime borders. He stated that the service intends to keep up this level of activity until regional security is fully established.
