Ladipo Johnson, the NDC candidate for the Lagos Central Senatorial District, emphasized that this election serves as a significant benchmark for INEC’s performance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Johnson urged state actors and the ruling party to refrain from leveraging public institutions to suppress opposition movements. He stressed that a level playing field is essential for maintaining public trust. Furthermore, he encouraged residents of Osun to participate in record numbers, noting that high voter turnout acts as a natural deterrent against electoral fraud.
Addressing the youth, Johnson warned against serving as political mercenaries. He argued that the immediate rewards offered by politicians cannot substitute for the long-term benefits of effective governance. He also reminded candidates that public office should be a commitment to service rather than a violent pursuit of power.
