Ondo State Government blocks exam results for students involved in post-graduation unrest

Ondo State has penalized 17 graduating students by withholding their WASSCE results after they were filmed engaging in destructive behavior and public disorder following their final examinations.

The Ondo State government has decided to withhold the West African Senior School Certificate Examination results and testimonials of various graduating students due to unruly behavior following their final papers. This disciplinary action affects 17 students from Oyemekun Grammar School, Aquinas Secondary School, and CAC Grammar School in Akure.

Authorities took this stance after a viral video surfaced on platforms like TikTok and Facebook, showing these students tearing their uniforms and behaving aggressively within the state capital. The state Commissioner for Education, Igbekele Ajibefun, confirmed that the names of these 17 individuals have been recorded in the schools’ black books as a formal disciplinary measure. Furthermore, school principals were issued queries for failing to prevent the public disorder, and any non-graduating students caught in the footage are to be expelled.

Commissioner Ajibefun noted that while academic milestones are worth celebrating, the government will not tolerate behavior that compromises the reputation of the state educational system for the sake of social media attention. Parents and the implicated students have been ordered to report to the ministry to receive their official letters of reprimand. The state remains firm that such actions will face strict consequences to prevent future incidents of lawlessness.
