Olisa Metuh, the former National Publicity Secretary for the Peoples Democratic Party and current Director of Mobilisation for the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, recently lauded President Bola Tinubu for the legislative progress of the State Police Bill. Metuh labeled the move a historic moment for security reform in Nigeria.
The former official noted that the Executive bill represents a major victory for the current administration. By advocating for decentralized law enforcement, President Tinubu has achieved a goal that previous leaders avoided despite popular demand. Metuh emphasized that this change will drastically improve community safety by utilizing local knowledge of culture and geography to combat crime, including banditry and kidnapping.
Beyond immediate security benefits, the reform is expected to generate jobs, lighten the load on federal security forces, and foster a more stable environment for economic investment. Metuh urged state governors and national stakeholders to cooperate fully while implementing the law to ensure it is not weaponized for political gain.
He stressed that the new system must adhere to the Constitution and maintain professional independence. By prioritizing national stability over partisan interests, Metuh believes the reform will provide a lasting legacy for the nation’s security structure.
