The Ogun State Police Command has successfully confiscated an English submachine gun along with 75 rounds of live ammunition. The items were hidden inside a broken wardrobe within a rental unit in the Sagamu Local Government Area. The discovery occurred while the premises, formerly held by a late landlord, were being cleared. DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed that the items have been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran for ballistic analysis as investigators work to determine the origin of the weapons.
In a separate enforcement action, officers from the Idi Oke Division interrupted a gathering of alleged cultists in the Igbesa district. Twelve individuals were taken into custody after police arrived at the Harodous Hotel to address reports of harassment. During the raid, officers seized several items, including battle axes, knives, assorted charms, eight motorcycles, and two vehicles. Meanwhile, the Sagamu Division located an abandoned Bajaj motorcycle at a mechanic workshop near the Kara Trailer Park; the police are currently attempting to identify its owner.
Additionally, the Itele Division arrested Babatunde Olasunkanmi following an attempted armed robbery. A commercial motorcyclist alerted authorities after his vehicle was targeted by two men, one of whom brandished a locally made double-barrel pistol. While Olasunkanmi was detained with a firearm, charms, and personal electronics, his associate fled with the victim’s motorcycle. Lastly, authorities in Atan-Ota apprehended 23 foreign nationals linked to an alleged visa and Ponzi scheme. Twenty-one of these individuals were transferred to the Nigeria Immigration Service, while two remain in police custody for prosecution regarding fraud charges. Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni emphasized that the command will continue utilizing intelligence-led strategies to ensure public safety.
