Law enforcement officials in Ogun State have taken 89 drivers into custody for operating vehicles without proper license plates. This crackdown, announced by State Police Public Relations Officer DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi in Abeokuta, follows strict orders from the Inspector-General of Police to identify and remove unregistered or obscured vehicles from the roads. Authorities have begun legal proceedings against those caught, emphasizing that these efforts are essential to improving vehicle tracking and preventing criminals from hiding their identities while committing offenses.
Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni has instructed tactical units and divisional commanders to maintain this enforcement strategy across the entire state. The police department aims to bolster security through constant patrols and closer cooperation with the public.
In a separate operation, local police in the Ogere Division teamed up with the So-Safe Corps and area vigilantes to disrupt an armed robbery at Akuro Phase I. Although the perpetrators managed to escape into the woods, officers successfully recovered stolen motorcycles and other valuables. One suspect is currently in police custody, and the investigation has been escalated to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran to track down the remaining gang members. Commissioner Ojajuni continues to urge citizens to use only verified commercial vehicles and to report suspicious activity to help keep the region secure.
