Ogun State Legislature Advances Proposals to Reform Judiciary and Rural Road Management

The Ogun State House of Assembly has moved two major bills to the committee stage aimed at improving judicial training and fixing administrative gaps in rural road management.

The Ogun State House of Assembly held a session on Thursday to review two legislative proposals designed to bolster the local judiciary and refine the oversight of rural road infrastructure. Speaker Oludaisi Elemide led the plenary, during which these measures successfully completed their second reading.

A new bill concerning pregnancy termination regulations was also presented to the chamber by the Clerk, Sakiru Adebakin. The primary legislation advancing includes the Ogun State Judicial Institute Bill, 2026, and the Ogun State Rural Access Roads Agency Amendment Bill, 2026.

Oluseun Adesanya, sponsor of the Judicial Institute Bill, argued that the act would establish a dedicated training facility to elevate the professionalism and efficiency of court staff. If signed by Governor Dapo Abiodun, the law would provide a formal administrative structure for the institution.

Simultaneously, Babatunde Tella spearheaded the discussion on the Rural Access Roads Agency Amendment. He explained that the revision is required to fix a legislative oversight regarding the Director General’s compensation and to improve the agency’s operational capacity.

Following the debate, the Speaker assigned the Judicial Institute Bill to the Committee on Justice, Ethics and Public Petitions. The Rural Access Roads Agency proposal was directed to the Committee on Water Resources, Energy and Rural Development. Additionally, Speaker Elemide noted that Waliu Owode of the Ijebu East constituency has rejoined the People’s Democratic Party, positioning him as the legislature’s sole minority representative.
