Former Ogun State Governor and prominent elder statesman, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, celebrated his 87th birthday on Wednesday. The milestone was marked by a thanksgiving and prayer service at his residence in the Ibara GRA section of Abeokuta, attended by religious leaders, political figures, and community members.
During the event, speakers praised Osoba’s distinguished career as a journalist and his vital role in shaping Nigeria’s political landscape. Venerable Isaiah Olayeni of the Anglican Communion reflected on Osoba’s life as a sign of divine favor, while Islamic leaders, including Imam Morufudeen Alim, highlighted the lasting impact of the infrastructure projects initiated during his time in office.
Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, lauded the elder statesman for his resilience and mentorship. Elemide emphasized that Osoba remains a foundational figure whose leadership style serves as a guiding light for younger politicians.
Governor Dapo Abiodun issued a formal tribute, celebrating Osoba as a dedicated patriot and an exceptional democrat. The governor noted that Osoba’s transition from a renowned journalist to a visionary leader demonstrated a commitment to integrity. The Minister of State for Health, Dr. Ishaq Kunle Salako, further honored Osoba’s contributions to the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) during the struggle to restore democratic rule.
