The Ogun State branch of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) claims the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is showing signs of nervousness regarding the influence of their candidate, Oladipupo Adebutu, as the 2027 gubernatorial election approaches. According to the party, local voters are prepared for a shift in leadership that official messaging cannot suppress.
This statement was released Sunday by Ogun PDP Youth Leader, Lukman Ejalonibu. He contended that recent remarks by Olamide Lawal, a Special Assistant to Governor Dapo Abiodun, highlight inconsistencies in the APC’s stance. Lawal had previously stated on television that Adebutu lacked the political standing and track record to successfully challenge the governor, while also suggesting that zoning policies would hinder his candidacy.
Ejalonibu pushed back, noting that the persistent focus of APC officials on Adebutu proves his increasing popularity and resonance with the public. He argued that a party would not dedicate significant media presence to a candidate they deemed insignificant. The PDP leader also defended Adebutu’s legacy from his time in the House of Representatives, pointing to his history of community projects, educational aid, and youth empowerment initiatives.
Instead of relying on zoning debates, Ejalonibu challenged the APC to address tangible issues like infrastructure, job creation, and the current economic crisis. He characterized the PDP’s mission as providing inclusive, responsible governance options and stated that true democratic competition should be defined by competence rather than tactical excuses.
