Obono-Obla Warns APC Against Ignoring Founding Members

Former presidential aide Okoi Obono-Obla warns that the APC risks internal division by overlooking the contributions of its founding members.

Chief Okoi Obono-Obla, a former presidential aide, has cautioned that the All Progressives Congress (APC) faces potential instability if it continues to marginalize its original members in favor of recent arrivals. His remarks follow a television interview by party leader Cletus Obun, which sparked concerns over the exclusion of those who established the party.

The APC was formed in 2013 by merging several opposition groups, such as the ACN, CPC, ANPP, and parts of APGA, to challenge for power in 2015. Obono-Obla noted that many grassroots builders, especially in Cross River State, are no longer involved in party decisions. He listed himself, Hilliard Eta, and John Odey as examples of early supporters who have been pushed aside.

While acknowledging that new members are inevitable, Obono-Obla stressed that the party must honor its veterans to maintain stability and institutional knowledge. He warned that ignoring these individuals could lead to resentment and fractures. He concluded by calling on APC leadership to foster an inclusive environment that balances new members with those who helped create the party.
