The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has moved the deadline for political parties to submit candidate lists for the 2027 gubernatorial and State Houses of Assembly elections. National Commissioner Mohammed Kudu Haruna confirmed the shift, noting the original August 8 cutoff was pushed to August 11 due to requests from various parties seeking more time.
Regarding the upcoming Osun State gubernatorial election on August 15, 2026, the commission addressed security concerns following a theft of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) at collection centers in Odo-Otin and Ife Central. Officials explicitly stated that these stolen cards are invalid for voting purposes. Impacted voters in these areas can now access replacement cards online.
Voters who requested replacements for damaged or lost cards have until August 9 at midnight to download and print their documents. This schedule allows the commission to finalize voter data before the August 15 polls. Previous collection efforts in Osun, which ran from late July through August 7, faced initial logistical challenges that prompted these ongoing administrative adjustments.
