Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr Hyacinth Alia, has formally promised his administration’s cooperation for the deployment of new Nigerian Army units, specifically pledging to manage the construction and equipping of the 5 Division headquarters. This pledge was made during a Tuesday meeting with an Army implementation team at the Government House in Makurdi.
Governor Alia noted that the presence of these military units is a vital measure to bolster regional safety and regain civilian trust. The state government intends to supply necessary land and logistical support to ensure the division begins operations efficiently. He expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Nigerian Army command for selecting Benue as the site for this critical security expansion.
Highlighting the historical necessity for an increased military footprint due to regional unrest, the governor praised the dedication of troops who have served and fallen in the line of duty. Additionally, he extended congratulations to Major General M. K. Gara, the inaugural General Officer Commanding of the 5 Division, promising ongoing state support.
The visit by the Army committee, directed by Major General Raymond T. Utsaha, serves to facilitate the launch of these strategic military installations as sanctioned by the federal authorities.
