The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has officially cleared Assistant Commandant of Corps John Onoja Attah, the leader of the Mining Marshals, of accusations involving a two billion naira financial diversion and the suspicious death of Deputy Superintendent of Corps Levi Agada. Investigations conducted by the agency found no wrongdoing by Attah or his management team regarding the incident at a mining site in Nasarawa State.
Corps spokesperson Babawale Afolabi, speaking on behalf of Commandant-General Ahmed Audi, stated that the claims against the unit were unfounded. Attah had previously denied the accusations, labeling them a smear campaign aimed at hindering the unit’s efforts to combat illegal mining. While the commander was cleared, the NSCDC announced that 79 personnel faced disciplinary action for various infractions. Notably, two Mining Marshals were dismissed and referred for prosecution for providing firearms to illegal miners. Despite the NSCDC’s findings, previous reports indicated that police investigations had initially identified Attah as a person of interest in the death of Agada.
