Two firefighters are in stable condition after collapsing during a blaze at a residential building in Ketu-Ikosi, Lagos, caused by an electrical surge.

Two firefighters required emergency medical care after collapsing during an operation to extinguish a fire that consumed the top floor of a three-storey residential structure in Ketu-Ikosi, Lagos. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) reported the incident, which began at 6:31 a.m. at 11 Ademola Taiwo Street. Spokesperson Olawale Afolabi identified the cause as an electrical surge originating from a prepaid meter situated on the building’s balcony.

Emergency crews from LASEMA and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service reached the scene rapidly, managing to halt the fire’s progression to an adjacent building. While no residents were harmed, the two firefighters who collapsed were transported to the Trauma Centre by a LASEMA response team. Officials confirm both individuals are currently in stable condition.

Recovery efforts and cooling operations are presently underway to ensure the site is secure. Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, praised the responders for their quick action. He further encouraged citizens to perform consistent maintenance on electrical wiring and meters to prevent similar accidents and reminded the public to use the 112 and 767 toll-free lines during emergencies.
