Northern Ireland will send a delegation of 65 athletes to compete across eight different sports at the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow this July. The squad features a blend of rising stars and seasoned competitors, including notable names such as swimmer Daniel Wiffen, gymnast Rhys McClenaghan, and heptathlete Kate O’Connor, all aiming to expand the nation’s medal collection.
Athletics will be led by world outdoor silver medallist Kate O’Connor, who is heading to her third Games. She is joined by first-time participants Nick Griggs, Callum Morgan, and James Gormley. The boxing contingent includes a 12-member squad headlined by four-time Games veteran Michaela Walsh and returning gold medallist Jude Gallagher. In gymnastics, Olympic champion Rhys McClenaghan aims to build on his historic success, supported by teammates Eamon Montgomery, Ewan McAteer, and Games debutant Chester Enriquez.
The swimming team is the largest group representing Northern Ireland, consisting of 15 athletes, including Olympic gold medallist Daniel Wiffen and multiple-time Paralympic champion Bethany Firth. Other sports represented include cycling, with five debutants; judo, featuring three competitors; lawn bowls, with four experienced players; netball, led by captain Michelle Magee; and weightlifting, which features four athletes including returning competitor Hannah Crymble.
