Internal strife within the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) intensified this Sunday as Nnamdi Kanu officially expelled members of the dissolved 3rd Administration of the Directorate of State (DOS). This follows Kanu’s June 17, 2026, decision to replace the Chika Edoziem-led leadership with a 4th Administration under Chris Nwaogu.
Edoziem initially rejected this change, attempting to declare Kanu suspended alongside spokesperson Emma Powerful. IPOB quickly dismissed these counter-claims as illegal, citing the group’s Code of Conduct, which grants the leader sole authority over the DOS. Kanu, currently serving a life sentence in Sokoto prison for terrorism, signed the expulsion order on June 21, 2026.
The individuals ousted include Chika Edoziem, Tony Nzurumike, Austin Agbanyim, Chukwudi Oforma, Isaiah Ubah, Colins Chinedu, Chinasa Nworu, Fidelis Ejiogu, Chidinma Nworu, and Keke Uda. Kanu clarified that while the initial dissolution was administrative, the expulsions are a disciplinary response to repeated violations of organizational rules.
Kanu highlighted numerous grievances against the former members, including the neglect of detained leaders, undermining his legal defense, and attempting to seize control of the movement for personal political gain. The leader explicitly warned that any parties associating with the expelled members will be viewed as adversaries to the IPOB cause. Supporters are urged to pledge their full allegiance to the new leadership under Chris Nwaogu.
