Aloy Ejimakor, who serves as the special counsel for IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, has asserted that his client remains behind bars due to his ongoing struggle on behalf of his people. Ejimakor stated clearly that Kanu’s incarceration is not related to personal allegations regarding infidelity or property acquisitions in Kenya.
Addressing the public via the social media platform X, Ejimakor warned critics to exercise caution regarding defamatory statements. He indicated that legal consequences will follow for those who continue to spread falsehoods about the leader. The lawyer emphasized that these warnings are serious and intended to protect Kanu’s reputation.
Kanu was initially detained in Kenya during June 2021 before being brought back to Nigeria through extraordinary rendition. Following a trial concerning terrorism charges, he was sentenced to life imprisonment. He is presently held at the Sokoto Custodial Centre.
