Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka has officially prohibited all final examination signing-off activities for graduating students, effective immediately. Aloysius Emeka Attah, the Director of Information and Public Relations, announced that the ban was established due to frequent reports of violence, property damage, and the overall disruption of campus operations during these events.
The university administration expressed concern regarding unauthorized individuals entering the campus, which creates security risks for the school community. Under the new policy, any non-student or non-staff member caught participating in these celebrations on university grounds faces potential arrest and prosecution for trespassing and disorderly conduct.
Students who organize or take part in these banned activities will face strict disciplinary measures, including the possibility of rustication or permanent withdrawal from the institution, as specified in the Students’ Handbook. Dr. Chinenye Gloria Okeke, the University Registrar, issued an internal memo urging students to prioritize their academic duties. She encouraged the community to report any planned misconduct to the Dean of Student Affairs or the Chief Safety Officer.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Bond Ugochukwu Stanley Anyaehie emphasized that the school remains dedicated to maintaining a peaceful atmosphere for research and learning. Consequently, the administration will take firm action against any behavior that threatens the safety and stability of the university environment.
