NMA Lagos Suspends Secretary and Officials for Unauthorized Assembly
Tensions have surfaced within the Lagos State branch of the Nigerian Medical Association following the suspension of Secretary Dr. Jimoh Hassan and various State Officers Committee members.
The leadership cited an unconstitutional assembly as the primary reason for these disciplinary measures.
This outcome was reached during an emergency State Executive Council session held on April 23. The council focused on a contentious meeting that took place on April 18 at Hall 36 of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba.
Dr. Saheed Kehinde, the NMA Lagos Chairman, explained that the council determined these members breached both the national constitution and the Lagos branch bylaws.
According to Kehinde, the council acted unanimously to preserve the organization’s reputation and ensure internal discipline.
To maintain operational continuity, the council appointed Deputy Secretary Dr. Olusola Soyinka Jnr as the new Acting Secretary, effective immediately. The leadership stated that these sanctions were essential to prevent any further undermining of their institutional framework.
The NMA Lagos remains committed to enforcing due process as the organization navigates this internal dispute.
