Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser, headed a team of Nigerian officials in Washington, DC, this Wednesday. The group met with their American counterparts for the US-Nigeria Joint Working Group to deliberate on Nigeria’s current security challenges.
Discussions centered on counterterrorism strategies, accomplishments achieved to date, and future plans for security collaboration between the two nations. A separate meeting regarding bilateral defense is planned for Thursday.
This mission follows the recent move by US President Donald Trump to label Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern. Accompanying Ribadu are several high-ranking officials: Minister of Foreign Affairs Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of Defence Christopher Musa, Minister of Finance Taiwo Oyedele, Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Attorney-General Lateef Fagbemi, and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sola Enikanolaiye.
