Dr. Agbo Major’s NNPP faction claims INEC recognition, readies for 2027 polls

Dr. Agbo Major’s NNPP faction claims that INEC has formally recognized its leadership, marking a key step in their preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The New Nigeria Peoples Party faction headed by Dr. Agbo Major has stated that the Independent National Electoral Commission has uploaded its recognized National Working Committee to the official portal. Major framed this as a turning point that settles leadership conflicts and prepares the organization for the 2027 election cycle.

During a media briefing in Abuja, Major noted that receiving the necessary INEC access code allows the party to start uploading candidate profiles. Although the party requested a short extension from the electoral body due to delays in executing court orders, they have already uploaded their list of polling agents. Furthermore, the party has formally reinstated its 2022 Constitution and Manifesto.

Dr. Major revealed that the National Executive Committee will convene soon to formalize the interim leadership’s actions. He thanked party founder Dr. Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam and supporters for their patience during ongoing legal battles. While praising the judiciary, he voiced frustration over the pace of implementing court judgments, urging INEC to improve compliance to protect democratic fairness.

The party remains in a state of flux due to a separate faction linked to Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, which recently named Bala Mohammed as Acting National Chairman. Beyond internal politics, Major addressed national security, urging the federal government to prioritize intelligence-led operations to stem the rise in violence and make travel safer for citizens.

To bolster its administrative capacity, the party also appointed Ambassador Shaibu Ahmed as the Deputy Chairman of its Board of Trustees. Major concluded by inviting a broad spectrum of Nigerians to join the movement, emphasizing the party’s dedication to equity and national progress while calling on INEC to ensure the integrity of the upcoming 2027 general elections.
