Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has lauded the suspension of the teachers’ strike in Oyo State, praising the role of dialogue in resuming school operations.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has welcomed the decision by teachers in Oyo State to call off their industrial action, framing the move as a successful outcome for negotiation and a return to consistent academic activities.

Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa announced that the resolution was reached following extensive discussions between the Federal Ministry of Education, the Oyo State government, and representatives from the Nigeria Union of Teachers at various administrative levels. This update was shared by the ministry’s spokesperson, Mrs. Folasade Boriowo, in a statement released in Abuja on Thursday.

Dr. Alausa noted that the agreement ensures students return to their classrooms. He credited the resolution to effective cooperation with the teachers’ union and the Oyo State government, while specifically thanking Governor Seyi Makinde for his commitment to resolving the impasse through communication. The minister also lauded the union leadership for prioritizing the needs of students throughout the process.

Reiterating the federal administration’s stance on educational continuity, Dr. Alausa stated that the government remains dedicated to keeping schools open despite regional security difficulties. He highlighted that the federal authorities will persist in coordinating with state partners, security services, and labor unions to enhance school safety and protect the fundamental rights of students to receive an education.
