The Federal Ministry of Works has prohibited commercial motorcycles and tricycles from operating on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. This initiative is designed to prevent the premature degradation and misuse of the recently built infrastructure.
Olufemi Dare, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, announced the restriction on Sunday, confirming that it will commence this week. He emphasized that the measure is essential to maintain the structural integrity and long-term viability of the road. Additionally, the ministry has banned the illegal parking of articulated vehicles and trucks on both the highway and bridges throughout Lagos.
Authorities have also declared that dumping refuse along the highway corridors is strictly forbidden, labeling such actions as detrimental to public property. Those who disregard these rules will face enforcement measures. Warning signs have been installed, and task force units are being deployed to monitor the area.
Dare highlighted the importance of protecting this high-quality infrastructure to ensure it remains durable for the public. He called on all road users to adhere to these new mandates to promote safety and preserve the longevity of the project.
