Nigeria Police to Resume Tinted Glass Permit Enforcement on January 2
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced the resumption of its enforcement of the tinted glass permit policy, effective January 2, 2026.
The decision was made public today, December 15, via a statement from Force Public Relations Officer CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, who cited rising security concerns across the country.
The Police clarified that although the matter is currently before a court, no court order has been issued to restrain the NPF from enforcing existing laws regarding the use of tinted glass on vehicles. The Force had previously suspended enforcement voluntarily to allow motorists sufficient time to regularize their documentation and complete the registration process.
Hundeyin noted that recent security assessments have shown a “disturbing rise in criminal activities” where vehicles fitted with unauthorized tinted glass are used to conceal the identities of criminals perpetrating offenses like armed robbery and kidnapping.
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, assured the public that the renewed enforcement will be executed with professionalism, respect for citizens’ rights, and strict adherence to the law.
He emphasized that the resumption of full enforcement is now a necessary and urgent proactive measure to safeguard communities. Motorists requiring tinted glass permits are advised to apply through approved channels to ensure their vehicles comply with legal requirements.
