Despite not having participated in any matches since their 2-1 friendly loss to Portugal back in June, Nigeria’s global standing remains unchanged. However, their continental rank dipped as Egypt made significant progress during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Pharaohs moved up to third in Africa following a successful run to the Round of 16, where they were eliminated by Argentina.
Morocco continues to lead African football after securing a spot in the 2026 World Cup quarter-finals, an effort that also pushed them from seventh to sixth place globally. Senegal holds the second spot in Africa, even with a minor drop in the worldwide list, while Algeria rounds out the top five on the continent.
On the international stage, Spain has reclaimed the top ranking after winning the World Cup, displacing Argentina into second place. France, England, and Brazil occupy the remaining positions in the top five. FIFA plans to publish the subsequent set of world rankings on October 7, 2026.
