The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has indicated a willingness to engage in merger discussions with fellow opposition groups as the 2027 general elections approach. National leader Seriake Dickson shared these plans during an appearance on the Channels Television program Sunday Politics, noting that his party remains receptive to forming strategic alliances.
Dickson, who currently serves as a senator for Bayelsa State and is a former governor, clarified that he intends to let the negotiation process unfold naturally rather than making premature declarations. He expressed his expectation that any resulting political partnership would ultimately support NDC candidates. The former governor emphasized that this stance is not based on a belief in party superiority, but rather a practical approach to post-nomination strategy.
These political developments occur as the NDC navigates legal challenges regarding its registration status. A Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State, recently reversed a previous directive that would have required the Independent National Electoral Commission to register the group as an official political party. Despite these hurdles, the party continues to manage internal crises and court-related proceedings involving various high-profile political figures.
