Neymar aimed a jab at Joachim Klement on social media following Brazil’s 2-1 victory against Japan during the FIFA World Cup Round of 32. Klement, a German economist, gained fame for correctly forecasting the winners of the 2014, 2018, and 2022 World Cups. The economist originally claimed his predictions were meant to show that experts struggle to forecast events outside their professional expertise.
Before the 2026 tournament, Klement predicted that Japan would eliminate Brazil in the second round and that the Netherlands would ultimately win the title. His forecast gained traction when Japan held a 1-0 lead after the first half. However, Brazil fought back, with Casemiro scoring an equalizer and Gabriel Martinelli netting a late goal to secure a dramatic win.
With the prediction proven wrong, Neymar shared his thoughts on X, telling Klement to improve his analytical efforts for future tournaments. Klement had previously told Fortune India that Brazil’s current roster lacked the quality to overcome Japan, despite the team’s historical success. Neymar, seeking his first World Cup title, clearly enjoyed proving the economist incorrect on the pitch.
