Beau Greaves has claimed her third Women’s World Matchplay championship in four years, edging out Fallon Sherrock in a tense 6-5 final at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens. Despite being the top seed, Greaves admitted she was not at her peak during the match. After squandering a 5-3 lead, the 22-year-old faced significant pressure when Sherrock landed a 180 in the final leg. However, Greaves responded with a maximum of her own, a 145 set-up shot, and finished with a 56 checkout to secure the victory.
Reflecting on the win, the Doncaster native expressed a sense of immense relief. She noted that while the pressure was intense, she felt privileged to be performing at such a high level. Greaves acknowledged that winning without playing her absolute best was a significant achievement for her career.
To reach the final, Greaves overcame a difficult semi-final against Gemma Hayter, where she needed a 104 checkout in a deciding leg to advance. Sherrock, meanwhile, had reached the final by convincingly defeating defending champion Lisa Ashton 5-1. This loss marks the third consecutive year that Sherrock has fallen just short of the title.
This victory adds to a landmark year for Greaves. In February, she became the first woman to achieve a nine-dart finish on the PDC ProTour, and in April, she made history as the first woman to secure a PDC ranking title by defeating Michael Smith.
