Newcastle United are currently engaged in significant discussions to secure the transfer of Republic of Ireland international Leanne Kiernan from Liverpool. The 27-year-old forward is currently under contract with Liverpool for more than 12 months, meaning the second-tier Newcastle side will likely need to provide a transfer fee to finalize the acquisition. Kiernan, who signed a contract extension in 2025, has spent five years at the club and was instrumental in their 2022 WSL 2 championship run, finishing that season as the team’s leading scorer with 14 goals.
Throughout her tenure at Liverpool, Kiernan has recorded 23 goals across 76 matches. She previously played for West Ham and Shelbourne, while also representing the Republic of Ireland 38 times since her 2017 international debut. Despite her history, she struggled to secure regular minutes under manager Gareth Taylor, leading to a loan stint at Nottingham Forest last season. With Liverpool bolstering their attack by signing Vivien Endemann from Wolfsburg, Newcastle intends to utilize Kiernan to add depth as they aim to compete for the WSL 2 title following an active transfer window.
