Following a 3-1 loss to Egypt in Monday’s World Cup fixture, New Zealand head coach Darren Bazeley addressed the result during a post-match interview. The Pharaohs secured their win through goals provided by Mostafa Ziko, Mohamed Salah, and Trezeguet.
Bazeley expressed frustration regarding the outcome, noting that his squad performed well initially by controlling possession and generating scoring opportunities. However, he admitted that his players struggled to match the increased speed of the game displayed by Egypt in the second half.
This defeat places New Zealand at the bottom of Group G, having earned only a single point from two matches. Despite the setback, Bazeley remains optimistic about the team’s prospects, emphasizing that a victory against Belgium in their next outing remains crucial for their tournament aspirations.
