NDLEA Alerts Citizens to Impersonation Scams Involving Fake Asset Auctions

The NDLEA is warning citizens against fraudsters using the names of senior officials to falsely offer forfeited vehicles for sale through unofficial auctions.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has issued a stern warning regarding criminals who are posing as agency representatives to deceive the public with counterfeit vehicle auction schemes. Femi Babafemi, the spokesperson for the NDLEA, released a statement on Friday identifying these scams, which often invoke the name of the agency’s secretary, Barrister Shadrach Haruna, to gain credibility.

Babafemi clarified that these messages and letters promising discounted forfeited vehicles are entirely fraudulent. He emphasized that no personnel within the agency possess the authority to sell or distribute seized property privately. All official disposal of assets is handled through transparent public auctions conducted by authorized professionals, strictly adhering to government procurement regulations.

The agency highlighted that legitimate auction opportunities are promoted via national media and official institutional platforms. Citizens are advised to ignore any suspicious solicitations and to report such activities to the nearest NDLEA office. The agency reiterated its dedication to integrity and urged the public to remain cautious against these criminal attempts to extract money through deceit.
