The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) reports that it has been unable to secure the access code required to upload its list of candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal. Osa Director, the National Publicity Secretary, confirmed that the party has requested the code from the electoral body but has yet to receive a response.
This situation follows a ruling by the Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State, which directed INEC to suspend recognition of the NDC pending the resolution of various legal disputes. The court previously overturned its own December 2025 judgment that had originally compelled INEC to register the party, citing claims from the Peace Movement Party (PMP) regarding the ownership of the logo utilized by the NDC.
NDC National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas Zuwoghe, rejected the court’s decision as legally unfounded and announced the party’s intention to appeal. He emphasized that the ruling did not order the party’s formal deregistration and vowed that the party remains a legitimate entity. The NDC continues to insist that it will feature on the ballot for the 2027 general elections, including its presidential candidate, Peter Gregory Obi.
The leadership of the NDC maintains that the PMP is not a recognized party and argues that the court acted outside its authority in revisiting the registration matter. Senator Zuwoghe stated that legal filings to stay the execution of the Lokoja court order are underway. He encouraged supporters to remain calm, claiming that the legal challenges are merely attempts to weaken the opposition. The party leadership remains focused on completing the candidate nomination process and urges citizens to participate in the upcoming elections.
